SURFRIDGE GHOST TOWN

SURFRIDGE: A LOS ANGELES GHOST TOWN

LA has it’s very own ghost town. And its located right at the heart of LAX.
Over 80 years ago a beachfront paradise sprung up just south of Marina Del Rey.
Home to movie stars, directors and other upper crust Angelinos, Palisades del Rey, also called Surfridge,
was 470 acres of beautiful homes, rolling streets and charming community.

As jets were commercialized and air travel increased in popularity,
LAX began buying up land to use as runways. Unfortunately for Surfridge residents,
their ocean-view paradise lay right in the path.

After several rounds of eminent domain forced residents to sell a their homes
far below what they would be worth today, the entire community was bulldozed
and chained off. All that remains are the cracked streets and lamp posts. And for some reason,
the lamp posts still come on at night.

  1. I know where this is. If you follow Imperial Highway to the beach, this is across the road from the beach.
